South Burgenland. Austrian Federal Army drones are patrolling the Hungarian border, where not long ago massive numbers of refugees came over to Austria. Renate, the speech-impaired daughter of old established family, is found dead in a vineyard. Traces at the crime scene and all the evidence point to Ahmed, an asylum seeker from the local accommodation centre, who had taken a conspicuous interest in Renate. Since receiving a negative response to his asylum claim, Ahmed has vanished without trace. Local constable Boandl thinks the case is tragic but that it can be solved quickly and cleanly. This would also suit Elfriede Jandrasits, the legendarily tough CID investigator from Eisenstadt. Her husband is appearing for the first time as a solo entertainer at his retirement party and is counting on her being there. Their life together has to start some time. Jandrasitz is as dogged about uncovering the truth as she is distant with people she doesn't know. She very quickly concludes that the story of the crime going round the village can't be right. Then things start to happen fast. Mashid, an interpreter of Arabic who has married into the village, convinces Ahmed to trust the police and turn himself in. The young man has a hard time with Jandrasitz, a woman who behaves like a man. And she has a hard time with the idea that the apparently harmless Afghan could be a murderer. During the night, Ahmed is assaulted. By the time Jandrasitz and Boandl get there, Ahmed has disappeared again. And there is a second body. Either Jandrasitz is wrong and Ahmed is not as harmless as he seems, or a very different game is afoot. Jandrasitz will soon discover that both things are true.

Barbara had probably made this video as an act of rebellion against her strict father before she had wanted to elope with Slati. In panic, the desperate Prantl covered up the fact and dumped the body in a disused mine shaft. When the police car with the member of parliament leaves the valley, Hannes also knows that his own little idyll has come to an end: he grabs his father's old backpack, ties his hiking boots and sets out into the world, accompanied by the anxious question, if Susanne will still be there for him at the end of his journey ...

Eisner and Feller are closing in on the young man and get into a spiral of public pressure, intense conflicts with each other, and growing inner doubts. Furthermore, nobody knows what he was doing. Despite being sick, Moritz looks in his office for clues, but his boss sends him home again. Eventually Eisner sets out to discover what actually happened. He takes up residence in the local inn, where the incident took place, and is soon recognised by some of the village's inhabitants. A black man, beaten to death in a quarry, is found near a small town. An explosive case in times like these. Two viennese investigators, Moritz Eisner and Bibi Fellner, are sent to the quiet little town of Pöllau to offer a fresh perspective on the case. The dead man is not known in town and has no ID on him. The 'Fluchthof', a housing centre for Africans, can't identify him. The founder of this organisation, Doctor Alfred Reuss, has returned to his home town after years of working for NGOs. The autopsy not only reveals that the man must have already been dead by the time he was deposited in the quarry, but also that he was infected with Ebola. The diagnosis immediately triggers the emergency plan for highly infectious diseases. The town of Pöllau is sealed off. Panic spreads. Moritz and Bibi have to continue with their investigations throughout this state of emergency, while running the risk of being contaminated.

Who is the Austrian middleman, who selects the targets for break-in, and who disposes of the goods afterwards?
During their investigations, police inspector Eisner and his assistant, Bibi, repeatedly come up against a lawyer who represents the victims, and also against a probable fence who seems to be implicated in the case.
