Qatar - Wildlife Secrets of the Pearl Peninsula

Qatar - Wildlife Secrets of the Pearl Peninsula

The venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup surprises and delights as a location for unexpected wildlife flourishing in dramatic landscapes. This country that has reinvented itself over the past 70 years has also reintroduced its national symbol, the desert-dwelling oryx with its long, elegant  horns, shimmering in the desert haze. But water plants survive in this inhospitable desert too, and off the coast the Gulf offers both natural and manmade coral reefs. Whale sharks 'hunt' for tuna eggs, dugongs graze in the thick seagrass meadows. Green turtles and desert hares, sand gazelles and Ethiopian hedgehogs, horned vipers, eagles and monitor lizards, Rüppell's foxes, falcons and flamingos are just some of the animals waiting to be discovered among Qatar's dunes, grasslands and mangroves.
