South Africa's Wineland - Ripe for Ubuntu

Weinland Südafrika - Reif für "Ubuntu"

Wines are supposed to be able to reveal something about their origins. If this piece of wine growers wisdom also applies to South Africa, then the wines of the Cape should have a bitter aftertaste - the taste of slavery, exploitation and inhuman working conditions. Yet wine is also said to have the ability to bring human beings, cultures and peoples together. In the new South Africa the idea of community in the sense of the national motto, ĞUbuntuğ, should also include the wine industry. Can the principle of ĞUbuntuğ be embodied by the community? This African philosophy says that a person is a person through other persons. A team of researchers has examined the progress towards fair conditions in the Cape and attempts to answer the question in the film from the perspectives of those affected.
